Shoal Fly By Sculpture

Docklands, Melbourne

Shoal Fly By is a series of sculptures that stretch along the water front of the new Docklands precinct in Melbourne.

The idea here was to have something that floated over head out of the corner of the eye not a monumental scene stealing thing but a ghost like slipping through the air.

A shoal of fish is a starting point for this sculpture because it represents a system of organisation that appears random and erratic yet is driven by an underlying order that is useful for us a model of building large structures from small randomly held together elements. A system, if you like, of disordered order.
